KIRSTY ELEN MEADE
Kirsty Elen, involving herself heavily in the Earth Society at the University of South Wales, has become a keen environmentalist during her time at uni, using her practice as an illustrator to explore social and environmental themes. After recently becoming interested in the ethical problems presented by the fashion industry, Kirsty decided to make a brand which focuses on producing home and fashion items sustainably, using her research to ensure her materials are as planet and people-friendly as possible.
The initiative behind Kirsty’s FMP was to create a brand which allows her to experiment with her new-found love of surface-pattern design and hand-drawn text, offering consumers an ethical and handmade alternative to home and fashion. Inspired by her love for retro art and design, Kirsty created Old News Goods, a brand which is an embodiment of her inspirations, crafted with her own imagination and skill. Old News Goods aims to encourage the betterment of mental and environmental health, providing an exciting approach to gardening and owning plants. Kirsty plans to expand her brand and include a wider variety of items in her shop over time.
